History

For almost 15 years, Rob Blackwell worked in the agricultural industry at co-ops, fertilizer companies and farm equipment businesses, where he developed relationships with growers and gained in-depth knowledge of their agricultural needs.

He became aware of the area’s growing demand for an informed, customer-oriented service provider. Rob founded GAPS, LLC in Ithaca in 1998 with a vision of helping growers maximize their outputs.

He has since piloted Gratiot Agricultural Professional Services into the full service seed, crop protection, fertilizer and custom application experts we are today. GAPS serves a 16-county area in mid-Michigan, including Clinton, Genesee, Gratiot, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Kent, Livingston, Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, Saginaw and Shiawassee Counties.

The company expanded to include a second location in Middleton in 2012 and the Argronomy Center and Dry Fertilizer Facility was added as a third facility in 2015.

In 2018, the company became known as GAPS FS.
